You may have noticed that sometimes travel plans change unexpectedly. A meeting time might be rescheduled, the weather might change for the worse, or some other problem might force you to postpone your trip. In such situations, we often wonder if we can change the date of our flight ticket.
If you have booked your ticket with IndiGo Airlines, the good news is that you can reschedule your flight without much hassle and sometimes even without any extra charges. Rescheduling without extra charges is usually quite easy. So, let’s find out (step-by-step) how we can do this and what things we need to keep in mind.
1. Understand What “Reschedule” Means
“Reschedule” means changing the date, time, or destination of your flight.
This means that if you have booked a flight for a particular day, you can change it to another day or time so that you can travel according to your new plans.
Please note – Rescheduling and Canceling are two different things.
👉 Rescheduling means changing the same ticket to a later date or time.
👉 Canceling means completely canceling the ticket and getting a refund.
2. When Can You Get the “Free Reschedule” Benefit?
You may know that IndiGo usually charges a “Change Fee” or “Rescheduling Charge” on every ticket,
but in some specific situations, you can change your flight date or time without paying any fee.
Below are three main situations where this facility is offered:
(a) Within 24 Hours of Booking
(Changes within 24 hours of booking)
If you have booked your flight ticket and then need to change the date or time, you can make these changes within 24 hours of booking without any additional charge.
However, there is one condition — your travel date must be at least 7 days away. This means that if you booked the ticket today and the flight is the very next day, this facility will not be available.
In this situation, IndiGo does not charge any “change fee”,
but if the fare of your new flight is higher than the original one,
you will only have to pay the difference (fare difference).
(b) If You Have Booked a Flexi Fare
(If you have booked a Flexi Fare)
IndiGo has different ticket types — such as Flexi, Saver, Super 6E, etc. If you have chosen a Flexi Fare ticket, you never have to pay any Change Fee for changing the date or time.
This means — you can shift your flight to another day or time for free. Just remember one thing — if the fare of the new flight is higher,
you will have to pay that difference (fare difference).
(c) When the Flight Is Changed or Cancelled by IndiGo
(When the flight is changed or cancelled by IndiGo itself)
Sometimes, due to technical problems, weather, or other technical issues,
IndiGo itself changes the time or date of your flight —
or cancels the flight altogether. In such a situation, it’s not your fault,
so IndiGo gives you the opportunity to choose another flight for free under “Plan B”.
You don’t have to pay any fee in this case — you can choose a new date or time, or you can also get a refund.
3. How to Reschedule Your IndiGo Ticket (Website & App)
- Open the IndiGo website or app on your device. (If using the website, open goindigo.in in Google; if using a mobile device, open the IndiGo app.)
- Once opened, go to “Manage Booking” at the top or in the menu. (The same option is available in the app.)
- Enter your PNR and Last Name there and click “Retrieve” or “Search”.
- Your booking will open – now select the “Change Flight” or “Edit Booking” button.
- Then choose your new date and/or correct time. (You can also change the seat class if needed.)
- The system will show you the price of your new flight. If the new flight is more expensive → you will have to pay the fare difference.
- If the new flight is cheaper → sometimes you receive a credit or voucher (this depends on the policy).
- In some cases, a change fee may also apply – if it is applicable to your ticket.
- Review all the changes – date, time, name (ensure there are no errors).
- If payment is required, complete the payment (card/UPI/net banking).
- After payment, click Confirm.
- The new e-ticket and updated PNR will be sent to your email and SMS immediately – the update will also be visible in the app.
4. Important Things to Keep in Mind
If you booked your flight through MakeMyTrip, Yatra, Cleartrip, EaseMyTrip, or any other travel agent,
you won’t be able to make changes directly on the IndiGo website.
In such cases, you’ll need to go back to the platform where you booked your ticket. There, you’ll find an option like “Manage Booking” or “Modify Trip”—use that to change the date or time.
- Fare Difference is always applicable
“Fare Difference” means that if the new flight’s fare is higher than the original one,
you will have to pay the additional amount. This rule applies in all situations—
whether you changed your ticket for free or purchased a Flexi Fare.
- Same-Day Changes usually incur a fee
If you want to change your flight on the same day,
a change fee usually applies,
unless you have purchased a Flexi Fare ticket.
With a Flexi Fare ticket, this change is often free, but a fee applies to other ticket types.
- Changes can also be made at the airport, but online is easier
You can also change your flight date or time at the airport counter. However, this method can be time-consuming and more expensive,
as a service charge is sometimes added.
Therefore, it’s best to make changes through the IndiGo website or mobile app—this is the fastest, easiest, and cheapest way.
5. When the Airline Makes the Change – Understanding “Plan B”
Sometimes, IndiGo itself changes your flight time, delays it, or cancels the flight. This is usually due to weather, technical, or operational reasons.
Because these changes are not your fault, IndiGo gives you the option to make changes for free – this is called “Plan B”.
What is Plan B?
When a flight is changed or cancelled by IndiGo,
you will receive a “Plan B” link via SMS or email.
By clicking on this link, you can decide what to do next –
and all of this is completely free.
In Plan B, you have 3 options:
- Choose a new flight – You can choose another flight according to your convenience.
There are no change fees or extra charges. - Get a full refund – If you don’t want to travel, you can get a full refund.
The money will be refunded to the same account from which you booked the ticket. - Get a travel voucher – If you want to travel later, you can get the ticket amount as a voucher, which you can use later on any IndiGo flight.
Benefits of Plan B:
All options are completely free. Everything can be done online and instantly. No need to contact customer care or go to the airport.
